About Me

Like most people, I have gone through times in my life when I felt stuck and overwhelmed.  I received support by confiding in people who care about me, but I found that what I also needed was to pursue my own therapy. It helped me understand myself in a deeper way, overcome challenges, and find more fulfillment, satisfaction, love, and joy. After the personal growth I achieved in my therapy, I wanted to help others have the same kind of life-changing experience that had been provided to me.

Over the past 20 years I have had the privilege to help people of all ages, from a wide range of backgrounds with very different life situations, challenges and problems. These experiences taught me to balance the uniqueness of each individual with the awareness that in the end, all of us have more in common than we realize.

Along the way, I received specialized training in helping people who have survived the trauma of child sexual abuse.  Aside from the usual problems and symptoms that such trauma can cause, a large number of these survivors had developed a variety of problems in the way they relate to sex, including everything from fear of and aversion to sex, to being hypersexual and compulsive in their sex lives.

Through specialized training, I have learned that not everyone with this addiction is a trauma survivor, and there are several underlying emotional and behavioral issues that can cause addiction.  I have also learned that while all addictions cause harm not only to the addicted person but to other people in their life, sexual addiction is unique in the way that it can harm the person closest to the addict - their intimate partner.

I feel blessed to be able to help people dealing with an issue that is becoming more recognized, but is still under-diagnosed and under-treated.  Many people who come to me for help have been to therapy for years but either not focused on their sexual behaviors or have not been helped to recover.

In my own life, I maintain balance by studying Torah, spending quality time with my wife and watching her paint, enjoying weekend family gatherings, and jumping on our trampoline with our twin girls. I also enjoy finding new beaches to swim at, and listening to classic and ‘90s rock music.  I am working on a long-term project, writing a book about child sexual abuse in the Jewish community to help survivors heal and to teach parents how to keep their children safe.

Experience

For over 20 years I have been providing therapy for people of all ages, with a wide range of challenges and problems. I completed a full-time internship providing supervised treatment in inpatient, and outpatient programs for people suffering from chronic and severe mental illness. I have worked with teenagers in foster care, provided psychoeducational evaluations and play therapy for school-age children, counseled sick and elderly patients in nursing home facilities, and assessed and treated people who have Autism and other Developmental Disabilities.

Early in my career, I received specialized training in helping people who have survived the trauma of child sexual abuse. The help that these people need almost always includes sexual healing.  Years of working with these heroic survivors of sexual abuse led me to focus my practice on helping people with sex addiction, intimacy problems and betrayal trauma.
